Gen Jacobs, a San Diego native, began dancing at the age of 6, beginning with tap, jazz and character. At the age of 10, she began studying ballet at The Ballet Conservatory under the influential training and exams of the Royal Academy of Dance. Growing up, she continued to train in ballet and jazz at local studios, and on her high school dance troupe. While in college, her creative side took a side trip and she pursued an education in graphic design, married and started a family. But, her love for dance was always there! After having her second daughter, she went back to dancing, taking classes at various studios throughout San Diego, and fell in love with the creative & free form movement of hip hop. When Danceology opened, she took up adult jazz, and soon after, adult hip hop. Having two daughters that dance at Danceology, one of her greatest joys is seeing them grow as dancers themselves and realized that she wanted to share her love for learning & teaching to younger, dancers. She now teaches beginning hip hop, ages 6-9, and the Minis/Junior hip hop competition team. She looks forward to continue to dance with the support and love of her family & friends. Aside from dancing, Gen is a full-time Graphic Designer. She resides in Carmel Mountain, with her husband Dave and two daughters, Hannah and Madelyn.

Ms. Gen’s classes start with a warm-up and stretch, combining coordination and conditioning techniques for the young, novice dancer. Class continues with further hip hop technique, building on musicality and movement. The remainder of class is spent on teaching a choreographed dance, that highlights the techniques learned, and showcases the student’s musicality. Ms. Gen provides a fun, loving and creative class where she always encourages growth and exploration in all types of dance.
